Mount Rainier Prep Climb: From Wildlife to "Wild Life"

During this past weekend at Mount Rainier, we saw the following interesting things:

On the side of the road:
A rabbit, coyote, fox, and numerous deer.

On the snow-covered trail and Muir Snowfield:
Beyond the treeline, and in the middle of nothing but snow, there were small black spiders randomly standing on the snowpack. We kept wondering what they must be eating
.
We also watched several birds along the trail, mostly near rocky patches. One bird hopped right over to our feet, obviously not afraid of humans.

There were *many* people, in the hundreds, who were hiking up Mount Rainier on Saturday. What we realized, however, was that hardly any of those people were going camping or making a summit attempt. Nearly all of the people we had seen were either skiers, snowboarders, or snowshoers. We especially give a lot of credit to those snowboarders climbing vertical snowy slopes in their snowboarding boots for such a long duration.
Some people were in shorts. Some people were in jeans (like Rick).

Speaking of Rick, the funniest moment of the day involved him, after we first arrived at the Paradise parking lot. But that's just a teaser on my behalf; I'll leave that story between him and myself.
